‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Mobile Game Launched by AMC

“Fear the Walking Dead” fans can now experience first-hand the horror of an L.A. zombie apocalypse with a free mobile game from AMC.

The cable network teamed up with video-game publisher Versus Evil for “Fear the Walking Dead: Dead Run,” which launched Sunday on Apple’s App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. AMC premiered season 2 of “Fear the Walking Dead” on Sunday night in more than 125 countries.

In “Fear the Walking Dead: Dead Run,” players assume the role of their favorite characters from the show. Gameplay takes place across familiar landscapes including an abandoned church, a high school and a sports arena. The game features more than 40 weapons and special episode levels that deliver storylines paralleling the events of the TV series.

“We wanted to launch the game in a unique and exciting way that honored the incredible show on which it’s based. The game is both thrilling and visually appealing as players try to survive the apocalyptic fall of Los Angeles,” said Mac McKean, senior VP of digital media for AMC and SundanceTV.

The mobile game will be discussed on the “Talking Dead: Fear Edition” after-show, which airs Sundays following “Fear the Walking Dead.”

The game is published by Versus Evil, whose titles include “The Banner Saga,” “Guild of Dungeoneering” and “Armikrog.” It produced the game with Red Fly Studio, an Austin, Texas-based game developer.

“Our goal from the beginning was to create a fun, accessible experience that stayed true to the energy of the show,” said Steve Escalante, g.m. and founder of Versus Evil. “We hope fans enjoy playing as their favorite show characters and competing with their friends in a world falling apart.”

AMC last year released a free-to-play mobile game for the main “The Walking Dead” series, developed with Finland’s Next Games.
